Abstract

Data collection and construction are fundamental and important for Geographic Information System (GIS). Large amount of geospatial data had been collected by Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB, Taiwan). For the data storage purpose, geospatial data warehouses had been used since 2006 in order to keep and share the data. According to the record, 25,473 theme maps had been collected and stored during the recent decade. However, large storage spaces are required for such amount of data, and the need for storage spaces are increasing by days. Besides the data download from geospatial data warehouses are record by different file formats, hence data format conversion is unavoidable in order to display on different GIS platform. Therefore, a more efficient solution for geospatial data storage and sharing is needed. To address the problem, SWCB developed an integrated GIS solution in 2013, i.e. Wisdom and Water Conservation Service (WWCS), which provides geospatial data through Application Program Interface (API) and also provides a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for geospatial data display. This integrated solution has the advantages of high efficiency, eliminate data redundancy, reduce human effort and reduce system development cost. The adopted Responsive Web Design (RWD) technique allow users to access geospatial data with any web browsers and mobile devices. WWCS also provides applications based on Location-based services (LBS), which is accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and which uses information on the geographical position of the mobile device. Currently, WWCS covers over 80 percent of the geospatial data related work in SWCB, and has become on of the most important data service platform, and the only service which provides water conservation information in Taiwan.
